vegan & friendly are an independent, eco-friendly British brand

Who We Are

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We are a family of three who love exploring the Kent coastline, splashing around in the sea and being creative at home. vegan & friendly was born out of the need to find cool, sustainable, vegan clothes for our son. We design everything in house (our house!) from our unique clothing for kids & adults to our homewares range.

We are a family-owned company based in Kent. Specialising in hand-crafted lettering and illustration, we create all of the designs for our unique clothing, accessories and homeware ranges in-house. The youngest member of our team/family even gets a say in the designs. I’ll be honest, the criticism isn’t always constructive…! He’s actually so involved, he ‘hit the button’ to publish our website! Starting a business that we are hoping will one day be part of his future.

Look, Feel & Do Good

At Vegan & Friendly, we care about every product and customer as much as we care about every animal and the planet we all live on. We want the products we sell to not only look and feel good, they have to do good too. From the women and kids clothing to the accessories and homeware ranges, we have hand-picked products, suppliers and fulfilment services that are ethical, sustainable and eco-friendly. And we always will. Our family is dedicated to upholding our sustainability mission.

Limiting Our Environmental Impact

Knowing that ‘fast’ or ‘throw-away’ fashion has a huge impact on our environment, we wanted to ensure we make as little impact as possible. Our plan from the start has always been to design products that you’ll want to keep and use for years, not just for a particular season. For this reason, you won’t find novelty items that celebrate a certain time of year or a passing trend on our site. We aim to make positive messages that never go out of fashion. After all, being vegan is for life, not just for Christmas!

Unfortunately, textiles is one of the world’s most polluting industries, so we have carefully selected companies to work with that share our ethos across our entire supply chain. From the materials used and the manufacturing process to the plastic-free packaging and shipping, every step has the welfare of our planet, animals, the people in mind.

Sustainable & Organic

All cotton in our products comes from sustainable organic Indian cotton, and the entire production process is controlled and certified in accordance with the latest version of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This means there are no toxic pesticides used in its production and it is grown sustainably. The production of our clothing undergoes annual audits to comply with the Fair Wear Foundation Code of Labour Practices in accordance with the International Labour Organisation’s conventions. This ensures the safety and wellbeing of the workers and that they are all paid fairly.

Our products are made in manufacturing facilities powered by green renewable energy, from low-impact raw materials. The carbon footprint of our products has been reduced by some 90%.

I’ll go into more detail about our Sustainability Mission in a later blog post, but you can also read more about it here in Our Story.

Keeping it Ethical

Of course, the measures mentioned above come at a price. These products and methods tend to be a bit more expensive than those used by most high street fashion outlets. However, we don’t let this influence our prices, we keep them low which just gives us a smaller profit margin. We just want to put our name to products we’re proud of but also ensure they are affordable. Making the right choices in life is very important to us. On that note, the mass-produced ‘fast fashion’ brands tend to use pretty questionable ethics to produce their products so cheaply. Things that we strongly oppose.

When you buy our products, you can rest assured that they are ethical and have not contributed to any form of animal or human exploitation. All we ask when you buy our products is that you, ideally, keep them for a long time. However, once you have finished with them, please either pass them on, donate to charity or recycle where possible.

As a small business, we want to ensure we make as little negative environmental impact as possible. Making the right choices in life are very important to us. When you buy products from us you can rest assured that our items have not contributed towards any form of animal exploitation. We believe we can all adopt an eco-conscious lifestyle. By taking the first steps into being more environmentally friendly with the clothes you wear or even by swapping to a plant-based meal once a week. It’s all very positive & these small steps combined make a big difference to the future of our planet.
